As the third largest manufacturer
in the Australian steel tube industry, Orrcon faces
tough competition from rivals; Smorgon and One Steel.
Forging ahead in business terms requires a serious focus
on all aspects of the game including a world class
approach to product and innovation management.
In response to the need to run parallel projects of
increasing complexity and business risk Orrcon’s Chief
Development Officer—Scott Loose sought to implement an
effective Stage-Gate ® process. Orrcon retained the
services of Prodex Systems to initially develop a manual
Stage-Gate process to facilitate risk management across
the portfolio of opportunities which were identified by
Orrcon. Deployment of the process across multiple sites
in three states was one of several factors which led to
the automation of the Orrcon Stage Gate ® process using
Accolade. Other benefits cited by Orrcon include: having
a structured, automated process which was common to all
and using a web based reporting and communication
structure which was a good fit with the culture of the
business. Limited resources and a focus on developmental
work also meant that having the Bob Cooper best practice
content built into Accolade gave them a running start.
The ability to map multiple processes into Accolade has
allowed the implementation of discrete processes for new
product variations and new business development
projects. Future expansion of the implementation will
also encompass the creation of a process for process
improvement initiatives. |
